How to send a file from your Android phone to a PC or Mac
From time to time I have a need to quickly send a file or text from my Android device to my computer over a local network. For iOS/macOS users there is a great system feature — AirDrop, but there is not anything like it for Android.
If we look in Google Play — we can find a lot of sharing apps, but most of them require you to create an account or install additional software not only on your phone, but also on a computer. It’s just not convenient for my needs — to quickly send a file. Also many of them shares files over the Internet, although sending files over local Wi-Fi is faster and doesn’t consume Internet traffic.
Also those apps has a lot of features, but I simply don’t need them. So it’s more a hinder than a help.
So I was wondering — is there any application for simple and convenient file transfer from a phone to a computer, without installing any software on it. And I found several apps that can do it!
The one I loved the most — Local Share to Computer. You can install it from Google Play.
It’s very easy to use. You simply select the “Local Share” application from share menu for the file you want to send on a computer.
The application will show you an address which you need to open on your computer.
Now you can open your favorite browser on your Mac or PC and type the provided address into the browser’s address bar. That’s all! The file will be downloaded on your computer.
The download speed will be very fast as the file will be downloaded via the local network. Plus, it’s 100% safe and secure because your files don’t go anywhere from your local environment and won’t be send to any third-party servers through the Internet.
When the file is downloaded, you can press “Stop share” button in the application to complete the sharing. Or you can just close the app.
Another option to send a file — it’s just select it in the Local Share application itself. When you open the application, you can see the “Select file” button.

After selecting the file, you will see the sharing address. The same way as in the previous example.
But sharing files is not the only option of the app! You can share a text as well. Select a text, tap Share and choose Local Share from the share menu. The rest is the same as always — open the showed address in a browser on the computer and get the shared text.
That’s it for today. Hope this article was helpful for you! Thank you for your attention. Bye 👋
